8:37 am - Austin State Hospital Hiring

The Austin State Hospital (an inpatient, acute-care psychiatric facility) is hiring RNs, LVNs, and PNAs (Psychiatric Nursing Assistant - no degree or experience required) for all shifts. Evening and night shifts get a 10% and 15% shift differential respectively; a couple of the PNA openings are part-time. This is a State job, so it is relatively steady employment and good benefits, but not the greatest pay. Go here and select Austin State Hospital under Facility Location to search and apply. Be sure and make your application as complete and thorough as you possibly can, and you can follow up by calling Carolyn in Hiring Services at 419-2631. You can also walk in at 4110 Guadalupe and apply in the Hiring Services building. The State does require passing a urine drug test and a background check before employment. Private message me if you have any questions.

Im moving in 2 weeks.

Im only moving about 2 miles. My biggest things to move are a large desk, 2 dressers, and 2 wooden book cases.

Im toying with the idea of renting a truck and hiring 2 or 3 day labor guys. Any experience with this? Or any recommendations on a cheap moving company?

OR.... any under employed muscle heads with a truck want the job?

9:54 am - Jobs Available at ASH

The Austin State Hospital (state-run mental institution) is hiring entry level positions:

Psychiatric Nurse Assistants
No Medical Experience Necessary
$1811 per month plus benefits
Plus 10% shift differential for evening or night shift
Make a difference and work with persons with mental illnesses. Experience preferred but not required; will train. Ability to communicate a must. Drug Screen and Background Check required.

This is a difficult job but a rewarding one. The State benefits are pretty good, especially for an entry level position, and the people here are really nice. The grounds are beautiful and it's not nearly as scary as you'd imagine. This is a minimum-security and restraint facility whose culture is changing to be centered more on patient's choices and rights. Please feel free to ask me any questions; I just got a job in admin and I'm really happy so far, so I wanted to pass the getting-a-job mojo along.

Go to Access HR to apply (the State application is a PAIN but just do your best). For "Facility Location" put Austin State Hospital and search, and there are a few PNA positions open, as well as some other types of jobs including nursing. Also, if you get the job and tell them I referred you, I get a paid day off, so let me know and I will tell you my real name and take you out to lunch or something :-)

6:51 pm

The company I work for is hiring for five full-time positions. All of them require a current RN license, but are not clinical nursing jobs. A couple of them would also consider a bachelor's degree in a health related discipline and several years experience in a healthcare environment in lieu of an RN. They prefer someone with experience in quality improvement training and methodolgy and hopefully a CPHQ certification. A couple of the jobs require extensive regional travel and overnight stays.

There's a complete job duties and requirements listing on our website:
WARNING: You HAVE to have Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher to view the job lisitngs and to apply. No way around it. It's totally stupid, I know. They won't accept paper resumes, you have to apply online.

If you do decide to apply, please let me know (my username at yahoo dot com) and I'll give you my name, because I get a referral bonus if you're hired. :-)

This is a great company to work for, they pay well, offer good benefits, value their employees and offer a flexible schedule including a 4/10 workweek. I've been here for almost 5 years, many of the employees have been here for 15-20 years.

3:51 pm - Website/graphics/etc for massage?

I want to barter services... but CL is apparently full of jack ass men looking for women too stupid to know better!

I posted an ad wishing to barter my website & graphic design services in trade for massage... all I got in response (within one hour of posting the ad) were tons of email from men, who were not professional therapists, offering to rub me down if I'd rub them... etc.

Anyway... thought I'd try posting here instead & see what happens. I design websites, cards, brochures, flyers, etc. I can do graphics, logos... just tell me what you need. You can view my website & portfolio here. If you're interested & would like to see more of my work, use the contact page to email me (or comment here) & I will send you an email with more samples.

I am serious & professional & will do an excellent job for you. I prefer you be the same. This could be a win/win situation. My back is killing me & with this economy I just can't afford regular massages anymore!

12:31 pm - Odd Hour Job Search
I'm a college student in my last semester taking 5 classes (15 hours) and I am searching for a part-time job in Austin (any part of town). The only problem is that due to my schedule, I have very odd availabilities (8PM-2AM M-Th and 6 or 7AM-Noon Fri-Sun). What I am wondering is if anybody knows or works at a place in Austin that is hiring with those type of availabilities? I am really trying to avoid gas stations and fast food for safety reasons, but am open to anything else as long as it's legal. Basically I am trying to work around 20 or so hours a week. That being said, I appreciate any opportunities and will work my balls off.

1:15 pm - Part time Job; Sept 22nd start

We are hiring for a part time job with a large non-profit in North Austin starting September 22nd. The pay is $10/hour and the hours are 15, 16, or 18 hours a week. The shifts are very flexible. This is a great job for students, people with existing part-time jobs, or contract employees who need a few extra hundred bucks a month.
I have to submit resumes by next Friday, so if you are interested, please email me a resume ASAP to austin@staffmark.com with 'Part time CSR' in the subject line.

Since this is work for a tobacco cessation program, you can't use any tobacco products. You must be 18 years of age or older, pass a criminal background test, a drug screen, and you must be able to sit and make phone outbound calls 4-5 hours a day. No sales or telemarketing, it's only survey questions to research participants. This isn't one of those 'bait and switch' jobs; it's legit employment with a very well established non-profit that assists and educates issues relating to cancer prevention, as a contract worker through Staffmark.
